The Gateway to College National Network is supported by a team of trainers and other professionals who are located in Portland, Oregon. The network team selects and trains replication sites and provides grants for planning and startup. The network team and planning grants are funded through a generous award from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and their partners in the Early College High School Initiative. All partners offering Gateway to College agree to a set of Essential Elements to ensure that the program provides a consistent level of excellence across the nation. Local colleges and their school district partners work together to align curriculum, so that students can complete a high school diploma according to local requirements, including high stakes exit exams. All sites follow the model's design including a Foundation term in a learning community and ongoing support from resource specialists.

Network members meet annually to share best practices and continuously improve the model. Members also participate in a national student information system studying the effectiveness of Gateway to College and the Early College High School Initiative. Starting in 2007, the network team will be providing mini-grants to existing partners to support the replication and the development of model improvements.
